Knowledge of a language is a crucial necessity for using the internet, shopping, banking and societal institutions, including education and health care, as well as for predicting employment prospects. Knowledge of a language promotes well-being by reducing the isolation of older immigrants and refugees and the intra-family conflicts that can result from children learning a language faster than their parents.4
